Syria is using heavy weapons against its citizens to crush the uprisings and killing civilians in the process. This was the excuse to attack Libya. So my question is “Why aren’t air and missile strikes ordered against Syria? Perfect opportunity to seperate Syria from Iran and make life more difficult for Hezbollah in Lebanon. So this is why I do not believe the attack on Libya was to “prevent civilian casualties”. If this was the case then the same philosophy should be used for Syria. I believe the Europeans want to get their hands on all that North African oil!

I just wanted to post a quick note and link below to an article that talks about Iran’s real goal is to try to takeover the Persian Gulf.  As we all know this is the lifeline to the west for the oil that is needed to run their economies.  Even if Iran did not succeed the disruption of the oil could collapse the economies of the west. The article states the saber ratling with Israel is just a diversion to take over the Gulf.  Interesting read so I wanted to add a link to share with others so let me know if it was worth the read. I also added a link on my page as well.

Dr. Kedar Warns: Iran May Take Over Persian Gulf

I have mentioned before about the healthcare bill just passed by Congress and the little “tid bits” we would find out about later on that would not make our healthcare cheaper in the long run for most of us and wanted to share what I have recently found out.  The insurance rep for my wife’s employer has told her about several changes that will affect the working person. 1) Any money that remains in your Flexible Spending Account cannot be used for over the counter medications.  I know at the end of the year if there is money remaining in the account and instead if losing it we would go spend it on over the counter meds to keep this from happening.  2) The second issue has to do with Health Savings Accounts (HSA). In this type of account money is placed in before taxes are taken from your pay check this helps reduce your tax burden just like a 401k.  According to the new requirements any amount contributed over $2,500.00 to the HSA cannot be deducted from taxes!!  Apparently these new requirements are a result of the healthcare bill that was passed by Congress and signed by the President.

I have stated previously these are things we will find out about in increments that will cost us all more money because all this has to be paid for some how.  And by the time we figure out about all the “incremental changes” that cost us more money it will be too late to change.  This is why I say to pay attention to the people you vote for because they usually tell you what they are going to do!!

If you read the title of my post you might think it is vulgar or something, but trust me it is not.  I name my post this in honor of the Value Added Tax that could possibly be placed on Americans in the very near future. The VAT as it is called is like a sales tax and would be added on to an item when it is purchased by a consumer, almost like a national sales tax with the Federal Government getting the proceeds.  You might look around and say “there is no way this will pass the Congress” but think again!! If you have been paying attention and not sidetracked by American Idol and Hollywood stuff the country is broke.  The government is spending way more money than it has and the revenue has to be made up somewhere and that somewhere will be made on the backs of the middle class.  The VAT tax would also hurt the poor, but rest assured the government will create some loophole to exclude the poor.

The idea was floated by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker.  You might say “this was just his idea but not our governments plan”.  This was a trial balloon put out to test the waters to see what kind of reaction there would be.  Our government knows if they floated the idea people would be upset so they sent out Paul Volcker to do it.  You watch after the November election the VAT will be on the table because if it was put on the table before the election then who ever supported it would be voted out of office.  The VAT is a way for our government to take more of our money because they spend too much, and I believe if the VAT is implemented it could collapse the middle class. I mean look at Europe! a lot of those countries have the VAT and they struggle economically.  I read that Greece’s debt was about 14% of their GDP and they need a bailout to stay afloat. Our debt is about 10% of our GDP and our leaders know if we get to 14% that was is happening in Greece could happen here.

We must take a stand against the VAT and demand our government control spending because when the “‘have’s don’t have any money left to give the have not’s” then what will we do!! I have posted a link to an article about the VAT.

It has been reported in the last week that Syria has supplied Hezbollah with Scud missiles that have the capability to hit all of Israel.  I know that Syria and Israel are enemies but I don’t believe these missiles would have been given to Hezbollah unless this was approved by Iran since they are the major backers of Hezbollah.  This is a continuing disturbing development as I believe that Iran through its proxies; Hezbollah to the North in Lebanon and Hamas to the South in the Gaza strip are preparing for another war.  It has been widely reported the war Israel fought with Hezbollah in 2006 was a stalemate at best and because of this it gives Hezbollah and Iran the fortitude to try to push for another war to try and take Israel out for good.

But I think Iran should not underestimate what Israel may do.  I mean Israel has a history of making a pre-emptive strike and I believe if they think these Scuds pose a threat Israel will strike in Lebanon and this time I believe they would also hit Damascus. Maybe not pre-emptively but I have read in the Jerusalem Post that Assad and his government in Syria would be attacked if they continue with this support of terror groups in Lebanon.

Seems to me the powers in our government and the western nations see this going on and have the intelligence reports to confirm this and the common folk only have what they read in the news!!  I am not a pessimist but I see this ending very badly in a war because you can see what his happening if you just pay attention!!   Ahmadinejad may be bluffing in order to provoke Israel into a pre-emptive strike which would allow him to rally possibly the arabs and terror groups to attack Israel. Because after all Ahmadinejad believes in the return of the Mahdi and he must help usher in this return.

I remember when the Ayatollah came to power in Iran during the Carter Presidency and these people have been at war with us ever since.  It is no coincidence these terror groups all began to spring up after 1979!!  Seems like to me Iran is behind all of this and I think they are playing a dangerous game that could come out very badly for them.  The article referenced is listed below:

Israeli officials say Syria gives Hezbollah Scuds

JERUSALEM – Israeli defense officials said Wednesday they believe Hezbollah has Scud missiles that could hit all of Israel, a day after Israel’s president accused Syria of supplying the Lebanese guerrillas with the weapons for the first time.

Israeli officials say the introduction of Scuds could alter the strategic balance with Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militia that battled Israel to a stalemate during a monthlong war in 2006.

President Shimon Peres, speaking in Paris, charged that Syria is playing a double game, talking about peace, while “it is delivering Scuds to Hezbollah to threaten Israel,” according to a statement from his office.

The remarks by Peres, whose position is largely ceremonial, went beyond public assessments of senior Israeli defense figures. He gave no details.

In Washington, the Syrian Embassy dismissed the allegations and accused Israel of trying to divert attention from questions about Israel’s nuclear program. Israel is widely believed to possess nuclear arms, though it does not confirm or deny this.

“If we are to discuss armament in our region, we should begin with Israel’s massive nuclear weapons arsenal and continuous arming with top-caliber U.S. weapons, which helps perpetuate its occupation of our territories,” said embassy spokesman Ahmed Salkini. “The timing also indicates a sinister attempt to undermine any U.S.-Syrian rapprochement.”

In Washington, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley expressed concern but did not confirm that Hezbollah now has Scud missiles.

“Regardless of the issue of Scuds, we remain concerned about the provision of increasingly sophisticated weaponry to parties, to Hezbollah, and this is an issue that we continue to raise with Syria,” he said, adding that such weapons endanger Lebanon’s security.

Some Scud missiles have a range of hundreds of miles (kilometers) and could reach any target in Israel if fired from Lebanon. They can carry an explosive warhead of up to 1 ton.

The defense officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were discussing a classified intelligence assessment, stopped short of stating unequivocally that Scuds are now deployed in Lebanon.

They said tensions have risen along Israel’s border with Lebanon after media reports that Hezbollah was seeking the missiles, and they believed Hezbollah now has them.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak issued a statement urging the public to remain calm, but said “the introduction of systems that disturb the balance endanger stability and calm.”

Israel charges that most of Hezbollah’s weapons, including rockets, come through neighboring Syria, which is a main sponsor of Hezbollah, along with Iran. But Peres’ statement was the first time Israel has publicly accused Damascus of providing Scuds.

At the U.N., deputy U.S. ambassador Alejandro Wolff alluded to the reported transfer of Scuds from Syria to Hezbollah. “We are increasingly concerned about the sophistication of the weaponry being transferred,” he said.

President Barack Obama is interested in restoring U.S. relations with Syria, frozen after charges from the previous administration that Damascus was aiding anti-American forces in neighboring Iraq.

Some Republican senators have said they may hold up the confirmation of Robert Ford, the Obama administration’s nominee to be the first U.S. ambassador to Syria in five years, over the concerns.

Hezbollah pelted Israel with nearly 4,000 unguided Katyusha rockets during the 2006 war, causing widespread damage and dozens of casualties in Israel’s north. Scud missiles have several times the range and explosive firepower of Katyusha rockets and would pose a much more serious threat.

In 1991, Saddam Hussein’s Iraq struck Israel with 39 Scud missiles as the U.S. and its allies invaded his country. Fourteen Israelis were killed during the conflict.

Israel has deployed an anti-missile system called Arrow, designed to intercept missiles from Iran and possibly Syria. It has successfully tested a system to stop shorter-range missiles and rockets like Scuds and Katyushas, as well as homemade rockets fired from Gaza, but it is not yet operational.

Boaz Ganor, an expert from Herzliya’s Interdisciplinary Center, said Scud missiles in the hands of Hezbollah could be a game-changer, not only because of their potential for damage.

“In Syrian hands, it was rationally administered, and now it’s not clear that in the hands of Hezbollah it will be administered rationally,” he said.

Associated Press Writers Matthew Lee in Washington and Edith M. Lederer at the U.N. contributed to this report.

I have been following  the recent news about the nuclear weapons treaty the U.S. has signed with Russia and the Nuclear Weapons review just put in place by President Obama.  The treaty reduces the nuclear stockpiles of the U.S. and Russia to about 1,500 warheads which is still enough to annihilate both countries so to me this is not a big concern.  We hear in the news that Russia is modernizing its warheads and ballistic missiles and the Chinese are building up as well and then we are told the U.S. is not developing or testing new warheads, just that we will spend the money to maintain the ones we have.  Since the public source for any of this information is the news media I just hope the U.S. has more going on behind the scenes on weapons development than we are being told.  I would think this is the case, but all we ever hear is what “the other side is doing”.

As far as the nuclear policy review all Presidents have done this, but I just hope this does not send signals to countries like Iran that they can try to take advantage of the U.S. and its interests by thinking this country isn’t serious about its defense.  I mean do any if us really believe that by saying that we will not fire Nuclear Weapons at a country that does not have them or violate the nuclear non proliferation treaty will stop a country like Iran!! What if they have signed the treaty and don’t develop nuclear weapons and then on the sly give their know how to terrorists and they are the ones who use these weapons….. what then??

I want the countries like Iran to know or at least think that if something like that happened then the next target would be their country.  There is a lot to be said for keeping the other side guessing and off-balance and not always telegraphing what you are about to do!!

I have borrowed the above title from a link I have posted to the right in regard to my continuing comments on Iran. I have stated previously that a policy of containment or a naval blockade is preferable to a long and sustained ground war.  The article talks about report from Arab dailies in the region about their thoughts of the current situation so this information is not coming from the western media. Some of the dailies report that if Israel attacks Iran that Syria will respond with thousands if missiles against Israel. I believe Syria would do this, but in my opinion Israel would defeat the Syrians in short order if this attack by Syria did take place. This arab daily also indicated “the american administration was preparing for a strangling blockade of Iran”. Again, as I stated previously I believe this to be a good option and the one that will be eventually favored by the Obama Administration.

Also something else made sense to me after reading this article as I had posted that I could not understand why it looked like China maybe coming onboard with the U.S. This article stated the reason we are arming Taiwan was to use the “stick” approach on China and the “carrot” was to line up the gulf states to sell oil and gas to China so they will not be hurt by the blockade of Iran, which sells them a large amount of oil and gas. The article points out the Arabs will be drawn into this war and is not theirs in the first place but a war on Iran and its proxies.

I think behind the scenes the arabs want Iran neutralized but cannot say it publicly because it would look like they are supporting Israel. If something has to go down, then I think the blockade is the way to go. I believe that if the Ahmadinejad and the mullahs are replaced then I believe terrorism will drop dramatically as I believe Iran funds most of the Islamic terrorism in the world.

I just read an article on yahoo news that says the six major world powers have agreed to new sanctions on Iran after China had dropped its opposition. This is interesting as China holds a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council and has been opposed up until this point to any new sanctions on Iran.  The article goes on to say that Iran’s top nuclear negotiator will travel to Iran to discuss the new sanctions.  Wonder why all of a sudden the Chinese have changed their mind??  China is able to purchase Iranian oil and gain a foot hold in the Middle East and is able to use Iran to “stick the U.S. in the eye” so it will be interesting to see what has changed for the Chinese to come around to the U.S. way of thinking.

If there is truly a change then we must give the President credit for making this happen.  You just hope he didn’t give the “farm away” to get this deal, but putting the weight of the security council on Iran counts for a whole lot.  If you read between the lines this whole process is to set up something big against Iran in the future.  I mean, look what Bush did with Iraq… He did all this U.N. stuff and when Iraq didn’t comply he invaded that country. I am not saying this is what Obama will do, but if something does go down Obama can say “we tried the U.N. and Iran did not comply with the resolutions so now we must take action”. Because if you remember during the campaign the one thing Obama said was that he would not allow I ran to have a nuclear weapon.  I believe he means this and we do all that he can to keep this from happening.   I have posted a link the article.

The final week for Congress to vote on the Healthcare Reform Bill is approaching.  As with any Big Government entitlement program all Americans should be concerned about the cost and the potential for more intrusion from the government in their lives. While the present bill may not be as comprehensive as the one proposed by the President earlier, any type of big program like this has the potential to reach into other areas of our personal lives.

One example of a government program that overreached its original intent is Social Security.  Back in the 1930′s President Roosevelt proposed the establishment of the social security program to provide an income to the elderly after retirement and help keep them out of poverty.  But look what happened over time as it went from a retirement program to giving money to people on disability, children with a deceased parent and so on.  While these are all good causes, Social Security was not set up for this.  Over time the U.S. Government could not refrain from tapping into the program’s financial resources, spending on entitlements other than those for which the funds were originally intended.  Thus today the program is facing a crisis in that will more than likely result in higher taxes.

The Government’s efforts to put forth a health care reform plan may lead to the same risks as those seen in big government entitlement programs. The Congress will pass it and then, as the years pass, it will grow many tentacles that are not anticipated today.  Years from now people will begin to realize that the plan has grown well beyond its original purpose and will ask, “How did they let that go through?” and yet it will be far too late to change its course.  Many could say the same thing today about the payroll tax:  “How did the people in 1913 allow the payroll tax to go through?”  When the payroll tax was adopted it was 1% of a worker’s wages, now look where it stands today.

Based on how government-funded programs have consistently exceeded their original intent over time, one must not assume that a healthcare reform plan passed today will be managed any differently.  It will reach much farther than anyone can imagine today.  And one other thing, rest assured the Congress will pull some political maneuver to pass the bill regardless of their constituents’ wishes in order to maintain their political control from Washington.  All Americans should request an up or down vote in Congress because we live in a ‘Representative Republic’ and thus have a right to representation.

I posted the other day about the Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and wanted to add some more info on what I have read or heard about his beliefs.  It has been said that he believes the “Mahdi” will return and Ahmadinejad needs to help speed up his return.  Who is the Mahdi you might ask?  He is suppose to be the prophesied redeemer of Islam and is suppose to return to earth with Jesus being a subordinate to him.  I have no issue with anyone having a faith and believing a certain way about their religion.  The issue I have is with the leader of a country that believes this and thinks that he needs to help the Mahdi to return by instigating some type of global conflict is ridiculous.  The reason why we should be concerned is that Iran is on the verge of nuclear weapons and someone who believes this way with nuclear weapons in their possession is very dangerous and should be taken very seriously with what they say.

I do not believe there needs to be an attack on Iran as I think there are things going on behind the scene’s now to try to stop this man.  While this is only speculation on my part the following is worth mentioning.  If you look at a map of the middle east and find Iran see the countries to the west and east of Iran.  The country to west is Iraq and the country to the east is Afghanistan and now the United States is in both countries.  Coincidence?? I don’t know but I believe the U.S. is using this to our advantage to destabilize Iran so an attack will not be needed. I don’t believe it is a coincidence either that all of a sudden there are demonstrations in Iran as I think the U.S. is helping to organize these which is a good thing in my opinion.

I am not defending the Bush administration, but all along maybe they all knew Iran was driving toward nuclear weapons and by invading Iraq this would start the policy of “containment” against Iran with the United States being able to influence Iran from its eastern and western borders.  Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think.
